Most likely you already have a B.Ed. degree or similar, but if not—or if you have a Professional Diploma after Degree (usually a B.A.) and you are considering adding a B.Ed., you may want to consider the Master of Teaching degree being offered at The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (there may be other universities offering this degree in Canada, but a quick search did not reveal any). OISE (“Oyzee”), as it is known in Ontario, offers the M.T. degree as an alternative to a B.Ed. The programs are of equal length, but the M.T. program involves more instructional hours. Some advantages of the M.T. program: It’s based on a cohort model to provide a more collegial and collaborative experience; perhaps more importantly, the M.T. can qualify you for a doctoral program, which the B.Ed. does not.
