It has never been more important to be financially literate, yet there persists a massive need for educating young people about money. This year April 15th is designated as Talk With Our Kids About Money day. CFEE created this event to raise public awareness of the importance of integrating financial literacy education into school curriculum. According to CFEE, “It will be a day on which participating schools will offer life-relevant lessons on money in some or all grade seven subject areas.” But it’s not just about a single-day event. CFEE’s website contains a broad range of resources on ways to incorporate financial literacy lessons across the curriculum. There are tips, suggestions, videos and a teacher’s guide. CFEE’s initiative has been so successful it has recently been invited to produce curriculum for several American school jurisdictions, as well as doing work incorporating financial literacy into schools across Canada.
