Grade Nine teacher Ken Halla has been actively involved in turning his classroom into a “…mobile device-friendly environment where students can incorporate the latest technology into the learning process.” He has tips for teachers on how to ensure mobile devices are being used productively. He suggests that walking among students while they work, rather than lecturing, tends to keep them focused on their academic work, and he recommends apps that remind students of assignments (“remind101”). He also recommends using apps for the social sciences, including World Wiki (there is a link in the article to Ken’s list of apps); and, finally, he says, “Let fun foster productivity.” For example, allowing students listen to music while they work.
